Our ornamental flower garden provides beautiful blooms, with which we create organic, zero-carbon-miles jam jar posies for sale.
Bulbs, hardy and half-hardy annuals provide a succession of blooms throughout the spring, summer and autumn. We are also starting to focus on drought-tolerant perennials as a more sustainable option.
Our beds show how households can reduce their reliance on cut flowers grown continents away, under heavy fertilizer and pesticide regimes.
In 2026 we have had to replace a number of our raised beds, due to damage caused by a fallen tree in the spring storms. Thanks to a generous grant from the Severn Trent Community Fund, our volunteers have spent the summer building, filling and planting some fabulous new beds made from recycled plastic, which will help to withstand the floodwaters the site is prone to.
The beds have now been planted up with a mixture of late annuals and perennials for some autumn colour, and looking ahead to 2027, we are starting to focus on trialling more drought-tolerant perennials, after the experience of 2026’s very hot and dry summer.
