Throughout the year, Worcester Community Garden hosts a series of events. Our courses are led by experts who are happy to share their subject knowledge and provide practical experience.
Talks at The Hive, 2026
In addition, this year we are working with The Hive public library in Worcester to put on a series of talks from August to November. Full details are below; all are free to attend, but please book your place using the links provided.
After each morning session, participants will be invited to visit the Worcester Community Garden and explore our buzzing flower beds and abundant vegetable plots. Anyone wishing to visit will need to make their own way there. Please be aware that the site is about a 20-minute walk from the Hive and it is not easily accessible for anyone with mobility issues. The garden is open until 2:00pm and people are invited to drop-in at any point until then.
Wildlife Gardening with Worcester Community Garden and
Worcestershire Wildlife Trust
Tuesday 4 August, 10:00am – 11:00am
We will discuss our recently opened Wildlife Garden, created in collaboration with Worcestershire Wildlife Trust. WCG Trustee Jon Bodenham will be joined by Julie Grainger from WWT for the presentation.
Composting with Worcester Community Garden

Join our Master Composter, Paul Snookes, for an interactive and engaging session on how to get the most out of your compost!
Worcester Community Garden: Flooded to Flourishing
Tuesday 8 September, 10:00am – 11:00am
Discover how we have transformed a flood-prone riverside site into a thriving community space. Along the way, we have learned to live with the River Severn rather than fight against it.
Steve Dent, Chair of Trustees, will explore the challenges of flooding, the innovative measures we have put in place to improve resilience, and the lessons learned along the way. He will look at how designing for floods and having volunteers ready to support has helped create a garden that can recover quickly and that continues to grow and flourish despite such challenging circumstances.
All Things Apples with Worcester Orchard Workers
Wednesday 21 October, 11:00am – 12:30pm
As part of Green Libraries Week, join the Worcester Orchard Workers for a session all about apples! The team will give an insight into the wonderful world of apple pressing and then discuss different grafting techniques.
Seed Saving with Worcester Community Garden and the Heritage Seed Library
Thursday 22 October, 1:00pm – 3:00pm
As part of Green Libraries Week, we will be joining with the Heritage Seed Library for a fascinating talk and interactive workshop on the theme of seed saving.
The Heritage Seed Library will share their Sowing your Seeds project which aims to conserve, share and safeguard rare, heirloom vegetable seeds across the Midlands. They will explore the history of their organisation and explain why preserving heirloom seeds is so vital.The talk will include the basic seed saving principles, including plant botany, preserving varieties, planning space for seed saving, population sizes and avoiding cross-pollination.
After the presentation, Worcester Community Garden and the Heritage Seed Library will lead a hands-on session for participants to prepare seeds for storage, including both wet (tomatoes) and dry(beans) techniques.
Worcester Community Garden: Construction Projects
Thursday 19 November, 10:00am – 11:00am
On International Men’s Day, join Trustee Jon Bodenham as he talks about the wide range of innovative construction projects that our team of volunteers has worked on, from floating bee hives and retractable canopies to compost bins and solar powered hot water taps.
There will be the opportunity to discuss volunteering roles after the talk.
