This month in the garden

August 2026

Trustee Cathryn has put her artistic talents to good use yet again, creating this fantastic sign for us. It has been located on the back of the solar-powered washstand near the entrance to the Garden, facing the path, to entice visitors in.

We were very happy to welcome volunteers from GoodGym once more, they did a great job of filling two of our raised beds with soil moved from another part of the Garden.

Our first ‘Art in the Garden’ session was a great success, with eight artists enjoying the garden and producing some lovely work! We look forward to more of these throughout the month -they will take place every Thursday in August, just drop in with your own art supplies and refreshments.

On August 9th the Worcester Show was held on Pitchcroft. This always results in higher visitor numbers at the Garden, so we made sure to have plenty of wonderful organic produce available for visitors to buy, beautifully displayed here by Debbie.

You may remember that, back in February, we were dismayed to discover that a mature tree had come down just outside the gates of the Garden, destroying a number of our raised beds and severely damaging several more.

As these beds form our ‘shop window’, enticing visitors to come inside, it was vital that we made plans to replace them. We were delighted to receive a generous grant from the Severn Trent Community Fund, enabling us to buy some replacement raised beds made from robust recycled plastic, which should be hard-wearing and flood-resistant. Our marvellous volunteers have been very busy this summer constructing the beds and filling them with soil and compost, and this month we have finally been able to start planting. A big thank you to all who have helped in any of these activities, and to Severn Trent Water for making it possible!

The Garden continues to be a popular destination for local companies to send groups of volunteers, and we are grateful to every one of them! We were pleased to welcome a team from VolkerLaser this month, who worked hard on a variety of tasks, including weeding, dead-heading and helping us to make progress in the developing Flood Garden.
