Early in the month, we were delighted to welcome Mayor Tor Pingree to the Garden for the official launch of the new Wildlife Garden. You can read more about the event here.

The Wildlife Garden also made the perfect setting for our volunteers’ thank you barbecue, providing shade on a hot day. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed in some way to making it such a success.

Harvesting is now in full swing. We currently have beans, new potatoes, cucumber and tomatoes on sale, with more fresh produce to come soon. Not forgetting the jams and pickles, community garden mugs and tote bags plus beautiful prints by Penny Neville-Lee!

Talking of harvesting, check out our Heritage Seed Library vegetables – these are coming on beautifully in this month’s hot weather, and we will soon be harvesting these too.

We were delighted to welcome volunteers from Worcester Environmental Group (The WEG) and Worcester Bosch, who worked on excavating the bog area and pond in the developing Flood Garden. Despite difficult conditions, with very dry ground and hot weather, they made excellent progress. Thanks, everyone!
On 26 July we hosted a Bioblitz run by our friends at The WEG (Worcester Environmental Group). They helped us run a wildlife survey in some of the uncultivated areas of the garden, to get an idea of the species inhabiting our space. We hope to repeat this in future years so that we can monitor changes in the species found onsite.

By the end of the month there was a wide range of produce available from the Veg Shed, including some wonderful Heritage tomato varieties. You can read more about these on the Heritage Seeds page.
