The end of the month saw plenty of activity in the garden. Jane and Eileen spent a glorious sunny day clearing four flowerbeds.

Seed saving

One of our recent activities was to harvest ripe, dry seedheads, remove all the chaff and save in seed envelopes, which we made.
Seeds from both edible and ornamental plants have been saved for next season.

Rain at last!
After such a dry spring and summer, our volunteers really enjoyed seeing the rain arrive – it made the colours shine through even more.

Even this native 2-spot ladybird seems to enjoy the raindrops!
More flood-proofing measures
This blue shed has been moved from a low point in the garden onto a set of floating pontoons. Being able to keep more tools and equipment dry makes such a positive difference to our recovery time after flooding.

After such a dry summer it’s hard to imagine that there could be about one metre of water here over the coming seasons!
